ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

Since being formed in 2002, NEDC has compiled an impressive list of accomplishments, including:

  • Brought the public and private sectors together to address economic development issues
  • Worked with the Borough to select a firm to complete a Strategic Plan for Economic Development
  • Created a non-profit economic development corporation to implement the economic development plan
  • Assisted the Borough in negotiating a Pre-Development Agreement and Development Agreement with Conroy Development to create a conceptual development plan for downtown
  • Provided expertise to Naugatuck Enterprise Zone businesses in securing state tax benefits for new or expansion projects
  • Worked with the Borough to market seven Town-owned sites in the Naugatuck Industrial Park
  • Connected Borough of Naugatuck to the statewide CEFC Site-Finder program
  • Worked with Waterbury to create and develop the two-town Commerce Park site, a 160 acre site for commercial/industrial development
  • Worked with four other economic development agencies to create a regional development collaborative
  • Worked with the real estate brokers to assist them on the sale of five buildings and one lot which were privately owned in the Naugatuck Industrial Park
  • Assisted the Borough in securing DECD approval to use state grant funds of $178,000 for the local share of the Pre-Development Agreement conceptual development planning of the downtown revitalization project
  • Assisted a health services company acquire, renovate and occupy a vacant downtown building
  • Worked with business community in raising over $50,000 in private sector funding per year to assist the Borough in funding local economic development efforts
  • Provided oversight for the Borough and the NEDC on the downtown revitalization project
  • Worked with other Naugatuck Valley towns on securing U.S. Department of Commerce - Economic Development Administration approval of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy (CEDS) for the Naugatuck Valley corridor
  • Assisted a Location Manager in selecting the Uniroyal Chemical site for two days of on-location shooting for the Paramount Pictures movie - "War of the Worlds"
  • Prepared marketing materials to promote the borough to new companies interested in relocating to Naugatuck using the theme of "NAUGATUCK...where innovation works"
  • Secured DECD approval to sell several town-owned sites in the Naugatuck Industrial Park for a build to suit warehouse, an information communications facility and two building materials warehouse & distribution facilities
